How We Roll
We call it rolled ice cream, but this method of producing premium ice cream originated in Thailand, where it was initially known as stir-fried ice cream.
Truckin’ Roll introduced rolled ice cream to PEI in 2018 and by 2019 Truckin’ Roll had become the #1 rated food establishment in PEI on TripAdvisor. The experience of watching your ice cream being beautifully crafted in front of you is almost as much fun as trying it for the first time!
What's In A Roll?
Our ice cream base is made fresh in our kitchen using cream from PEI dairy farmers and we sweeten our ice cream with PEI maple syrup. Our ice cream doesn’t contain eggs or any refined sugar! We know that many of you either can’t eat dairy or choose not to, so we’ve created a completely vegan option made with delicious coconut cream instead of dairy.
We pour our base onto a freezing cold plate along with fresh fruit and after 2-3 minutes of chopping, mixing, scraping, with some storytelling by our ice cream artisans – and you’re ice cream is ready to be enjoyed.
The TikTok-worthy process of creating rolled ice cream isn’t just for show, it is also one of the reasons that our ice cream is so dense, flavorful and creamy. Mixing, rolling and freezing the ice cream on a cold plate doesn’t add any air to the cream, so your ice cream is just that.
Island Flavours
Combining this process with fresh local ingredients is when the magic really happens. If a fruit is grown in PEI, we purchase directly from local farms and we only serve it in-season.
Sure, you can buy strawberries year-round in the grocery store, but when you compare a grocery store strawberry to a fresh locally grown berry, the taste and sweetness don’t compare. That’s why some of our favorite flavours are so short lived. When strawberry season in PEI ends, so do the Truckin’ Roll strawberry flavours.
No matter the season, we are always rolling up something delicious. Stop by the Truck or into Amelia’s to find your new favourite flavour.
